Myth 1: “Public transportation isn’t safe”
Did you know public transportation is ten times safer per mile than traveling on automobiles? According to American Public Transportation Association, using public transportation is a safer choice and helps reduce your chance of being in an accident by 90%!
Myth 2: “Public authorities don’t listen to the public opportunity for input”
A common misconception of any public transportation agency is that no one is truly listening.
However, many transportation agencies like us utilize public feedback in our planning with committee or stakeholder meetings, surveys, public open houses, and workshops to decide how to improve our services to the public.
Myth 3: “Public Transportation can’t be as fast as driving”
Throughout cities like New York City, Los Angeles, and even here in the Lehigh Valley region, BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) has benefitted cities with easy and high-frequency transportation. While you can drive to any location by car, buses are also a great option to consider if you wish to travel on a budget and avoid paying for parking and congestion or the cost of having a car.
Bus rapid transit is a mode of transit that provides fast, frequent, and comfortable transit service along a dedicated transit line or corridor. Since the launch of our very own BRT system called EBS (Enhanced Bus Service), we have provided a frequent, 15-minute service through our two routes: EBS Blue Route and EBS Green Route throughout the Lehigh Valley!
Myth 4: “Bus drivers have an easy job”
You might think driving a bus is easy, but it is indeed more complicated than you think. Bus drivers at any transportation agency are required to do more than just drive a bus.
They must know how to navigate complex systems, detours, customer service duties, and drive safely on their predetermined route they are operating on. Most bus drivers also work a 10-hour shift as they must ensure they are in constant communication with their dispatcher regarding any emergencies, traffic patterns, or accidents. Our bus drivers are also our eyes on the road and essential to the success of any public transportation agency.
