Getting Started with ValleyRide
With the new ValleyRide system, you will use Tokens to ride the bus.
Three types of tokens are available: the Transit app, Smart Cards,
and limited-use cards. This guide will walk you through everything
you need to know.

1. Getting Started in Transit App
The Transit app is now LANTA’s primary mobile fare payment system.
With it, you can load value and ride using a QR code.
2. Creating a Transit App Account
- Download the app on iOS or Android.
- Tap the icon in the top-left corner.
- Select “Sign In or Sign Up” under the Accounts section.
- Enter your email address and follow the prompts.
- Enter your name.
- Create a password.
- Agree to terms of use.
- Select “Sign up.”
3. Loading An Account in the Transit App
ValleyRide works on a tap‑and‑ride system. To ride, your account must
have funds loaded. You can add value directly in the Transit app or
with cash at any VanillaDirect location.
When loading value, you can add a minimum of $1 and a maximum of $100
per transaction.
4. Loading With Card
- Tap “Ride Now” in the bottom menu.
- Select “Add Funds” (Yellow indicates insufficient funds).
- Select amount or enter a custom amount.
- Proceed to payment and confirm the transaction.
- Choose your payment method.
- Place order.
5. Loading With Cash
- Visit a VanillaDirect location.
- In the app, tap “Ride Now.”
- Select “Add Funds.”
- Select “Add Funds at Store kiosk.”
- Show your barcode to the cashier and pay with cash.
- Bar code is scanned by the cashier.
6. Riding With Your Transit App Account
- Select your route.
- Tap “Ride Now.”
- Scan your QR Code on the bus validator.
7. Smart Cards and Limited‑Use Cards
Smart Cards are reloadable and tied to your account. Limited‑Use Cards
are disposable and cannot be reloaded.
8. How To Get a Smart Card or Limited‑Use Cards
Visit any LANTA Transportation Center to purchase either a Smart Card for $5
(includes a 3‑hour pass), or a Limited-Use Card. Limited‑Use Cards will also be available for purchase with cash in
vending machines at the Allentown Transportation Center on ValleyRide’s launch date, August 12.
