Building a Smarter, More Flexible Fare System
Over the past few years, we’ve focused on implementing system-wide improvements, and we’re now ready to roll out ValleyRide in 2025. This new system will introduce flexible fare options and innovative ways to pay, giving riders a seamless experience and greater control over their fares.
What Will the New Fare Structure Look Like?
Under the new ValleyRide structure, you can choose from options such as a SmartCard, ValleyRide account, non-reloadable time-based passes, and still pay in-person for single rides.
New Fare Options and Pricing
- 3-Hour Pass: Ride for 3 hours for just $2
- Day Pass: Enjoy unlimited rides for a full day at $4.
- 31-Day Pass: This pass is now accessible through our new fare capping system. Once you spend $60 on a SmartCard or ValleyRide account, you’ll automatically receive a 31-Day pass.
What is a ValleyRide SmartCard?
The ValleyRide SmartCard is a reloadable card that makes fare payment more convenient and efficient. Simply load funds onto your SmartCard, and fare costs will be deducted automatically with each ride. Our new onboard validators will make it easy to tap and ride without any hassle.
Fare Capping: A Game-Changer for Riders
With the launch of ValleyRide, the Lehigh Valley will experience fare capping for the first time. This feature allows riders to save on monthly and daily passes without having to pay upfront costs. Here’s how it works:
- Daily Cap Example: If you ride twice in one day, your fare caps at $4. Any additional rides that day are at no cost!
- 31-Day Cap: Spend up to $60 in a month on a ValleyRide account or SmartCard, and automatically receive a 31-Day pass for unlimited riding.
Choosing Between a SmartCard and a ValleyRide Account
To unlock the benefits of fare capping, you’ll need to either set up a ValleyRide account or purchase a ValleyRide SmartCard. These are the only options for fare capping, as paying in-person or using regular paper passes will not allow access to these savings. Once you choose a payment method, be sure to tap consistently with the same card or account to ensure fare capping applies.
