ValleyRide: A Smarter Way to Pay – Lowest Fare – Zero Hassle
ValleyRide is LANTA’s new fare payment system that makes it easier and more flexible to ride. Whether you’re using your smartphone or a smart card, ValleyRide offers a faster way to pay — and guarantees the best deal with fare capping.
How It Works
Pay As You Go. Never Overpay.
ValleyRide is account-based, which means you load money onto your account, and the fare system deducts value each time you ride.
- No need to buy a pass ahead of time
- Just tap your card or app and ride
- The system keeps track and gives you the best fare automatically
Fare Capping
What Is Fare Capping?
Fare Capping ensures you always get the lowest fare available — without needing to plan ahead.
Example: If you make enough trips in one day to reach the price of a Day Pass, the system will cap your spending at that amount. You won’t pay more than necessary.
- 3-Hour Pass: $2.50
- Day Pass: $5.00
- 31-Day Pass: $70.00
Fare Options
| Pass Type | Description | How to Access |
|---|---|---|
| 3-Hour Pass | Unlimited rides for 3 hours from first tap | Fare Capping Only |
| Day Pass | Unlimited rides in one calendar day | Fare Capping or Transit Center |
| 31-Day Pass | Unlimited rides for 31 consecutive days | Fare Capping Only |
Mobile App
Use the Transit App
- Load value onto your account
- Tap your phone to ride
- Track trips and spending
Smart Cards
Prefer a card instead of your phone?
You can request a ValleyRide Smart Card at any LANTA Transit Center.
- Loaded with cash or card
- Registered for balance protection
- Used just like the app (tap and ride)
Open Payments
Tap Your Card. Ride with ValleyRide.
ValleyRide is expanding to include open payments, giving riders another simple way to pay. Riders will be able to tap a contactless credit card, debit card, smartphone, or smartwatch directly on the fare validator when boarding.
Use What You Already Have
No ticket purchase is needed in advance. Just tap your contactless Visa or Mastercard, mobile wallet, or wearable device when you board.
Fast and Convenient
Open payments are designed to make boarding faster and easier, especially for riders who do not have a ValleyRide Smart Card or Transit app account.
Same Tap Each Time
Riders should use the same card or same mobile wallet device each time they ride so the system can recognize their trips correctly.
Important Reminder
A physical credit or debit card and the same card loaded into a mobile wallet may be recognized as two different payment methods.
For the best experience, choose one payment method and use it consistently when riding.
Open Payment FAQs
Do I need a ValleyRide account to use open payments?
